It was indeed an enchanting evening at the Pan Pacific Manila last December 31 as it welcomed 2008 with its year-end party “Symphony to Countdown”.
The captivating voice of Ms. Pinky Marquez enthralled guests into a night of beautiful music accompanied by the country’s leading String Ensemble, the RSVP String Quartet headed by world-renowned musical director, arranger and pianist, Ms. Ma. Carmen Echevarria.
Pinky Marquez as always gave a superb performance and with the violin, cello, flute and piano that accompanied her, she rendered songs by Barbara Streisand, the crowd’s favorite “Some Enchanted Evening”, some OPM favorites and Broadway classics such as “All I Ask of You” from the Phantom of the Opera, “An Unexpected Song” from Song and Dance, and those from the musical plays she has done like Beauty and the Beast, Into the Woods, The King and I and Carousel among others.
Close to midnight, upbeat music filled the hotel’s Pacific Lounge where guests enjoyed lavish international buffet with the exquisite view of Manila made possible by the lounge’s floor-to-ceiling glass walls. The sumptuous dinner included a carving station of prime rib of beef, roast suckling pig, and Rosemary-Garlic marinated leg of lamb. For the seafood lovers, prawns, oysters, and oysters were among the many to feast from.
Guests took delight in watching Manila’s fireworks display at the hotel helipad with sparkling wine to welcome the New Year. Marquez led the singing of the “Auld Lang Syne”, giving it a twist with the big band version followed by a medley of fast songs and a DJ that made sure guests danced the night away.
But the night wouldn’t be complete without prizes. Two sets of raffle brought excitement for the night which included premium hotel souvenir items, roundtrip tickets to any destination via Asian Spirit, cocktails and dinner gift certificates at the Pacific Lounge, overnight stays at the Pan Pacific Manila and the grand prize, a 3 days and 2 nights stay at the Palau Pacific Resort.
“The Symphony to Countdown party was the best way to end 2007 with the sense of sound/hearing as the hotel’s theme. We believe in providing guests with multi-sensory experience when we started celebrating the different senses starting with the senses of smell and taste in 2005 and 2006 respectively. The Sense of Touch will be the focus for 2008 and definitely, there will be new and exciting promos to watch out for.” Richard Masselin , Pan Pacific General Manager shared.
