Hotel joins ‘Clean the World’ effort to provide soap to developing countries
SEATTLE – October 12, 2010 – Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle is the first hotel in Seattle to participate in the Clean the World program. Clean the World is a non-profit organization that distributes recycled soap products to impoverished countries worldwide. By donating something as simple as soap, Pan Pacific has joined in the fight to reduce acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease for one million children who die annually from these causes.
“Hotels have an amazing opportunity to give back to those in need,” said David Sullivan, General Manager, Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle. “Every day thousands of visitors pass through our city, and organizations like Food Lifeline and Clean the World offer a way for hotels to make these visits benefit the larger community.”
Participation in the Clean the World program builds on the hotel’s ongoing philanthropic efforts. Pan Pacific’s commitment to corporate responsibility is reflected in its ongoing efforts to reduce waste, minimize environmental impacts and give back both to the local and global community. Along with contributions to Clean the World, Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle works with local charities including Food Lifeline and the YWCA. These programs combat hunger and provide essential goods for low-income families. In 2010, Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle has donated more than 2,700 pounds of food including more than 1,100 pounds to Food Lifeline’s Seattle Table.
“We are truly grateful for our partnership with Pan Pacific Hotel during an economic time that leaves more people at risk of hunger and more hunger relief programs searching for the resources needed to feed these individuals,” said Food Lifeline President and CEO, Linda Nageotte. “The generosity of Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle and its patrons during the past two years is helping Food Lifeline make great strides toward its goal of ending hunger.”
Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle employees select a Social Responsibility Cause of the Month to support through fund raising and volunteer activities. Causes have included Autism Speaks, Lifelong AIDs Alliance, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Relief for Haiti, Spring Clean Seattle, World Vision and the YWCA. In 2010, Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle has raised more than $7,700 and has dedicated more than 180 volunteer hours to these various charities and non-profit organizations. Additionally, as a participant in the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual Executive Lock-up, General Manager David Sullivan has raised more than $5,800 for Jerry’s Kids.
“Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle understands that small gestures make a huge difference. The YWCA is grateful for its contributions to our meal program at Angeline’s Center for Homeless Women and also the donation of toiletries, which go to good use in our Personal Care Center,” said Sue Sherbrooke, CEO, YWCA Seattle-King County-Snohomish County. “These gestures show compassion and kindness, and they contribute to life with dignity for the homeless and very low-income women who come to YWCA Angeline’s.”
